Two bantamweights on the cusp of breaking into the top-15 will face off on June 26th. Raoni Barcelos vs Timur Valiev immediately jumps off the page as a prime candidate for Fight of the Night.

Raoni Barcelos vs Timur Valiev Set for UFC Fight Night: Gane vs Volkov

Raoni Barcelos (16-1, 5-0 UFC) has had three fights fall apart since defeating Khalid Taha last November. The 33 year old out of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil has earned Fight of the Night nods in two of his five UFC appearances. Barcelos owns a BJJ black belt under his father Laerte, and he brought home gold in 2009 at the Brazilian Nationals No-gi Championship. On top of his grappling prowess, Barcelos is dangerous on the feet, which was most evident in his uppercut knockout of Kurt Holobaugh. Undoubtedly, he’ll find himself in the bantamweight rankings with a win in his next fight.

Timur Valiev (17-2, 1-0/1NC UFC) will be a little over four months removed from beating Martin Day when he steps in the octagon in June. “The Lucky” had his debut defeat to Trevin Jones turned to a No Contest as result of his opponent’s positive marijuana test. Still, the 31 year old Russian is extremely talented and appears to be moving back down to bantamweight for this next fight. Valiev is a Master of Sports in Sambo and a brown belt in BJJ under Ricardo Almeida. The outcome of this bout might determine whether or not the bantamweight division will be his permanent home.

Raoni Barcelos vs Timur Valiev adds to the UFC Fight Night card that’s set to be headlined by two heavyweight contenders. The order of bouts may get shuffled as fights fall off or get added to the card, but check out how the current lineup stacks up below:
