For the first time in the 2021 Baltimore Orioles season, baseball will be played at Oriole Park Camden Yards. After sweeping Boston and dropping two of three against the Yankees, baseball finally returns to Baltimore, as the Orioles host the Red Sox.
2021 Baltimore Orioles: Home Opener Preview
Harvey was solid in the Orioles debut pitching 4.2 innings while surrendering two runs, on six hits, and one walk. He did manage to strike out four batters in a game the O’s eventually won 4-2. Meanwhile, E-Rod may be making his first appearance since a 19 win 2019. Rodriguez missed last year due to complications from the coronavirus and started the season on the IL due to arm fatigue.
Meanwhile, Baltimore Mayor Brandon M. Scott and US Secretary of Labor (and former Boston Mayor) Marty Walsh will throw a joint ceremonial first pitch.
The second home game for the 2021 Baltimore Orioles will be on Saturday with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 EST. The Orioles will likely stick with Bruce Zimmerman after he held the Red Sox to three runs over six innings.
The Red Sox could counter with Garrett Richards. Richards struggled badly in his first start with the Red Sox, allowing seven hits and six runs in only two innings.
The final game of the series is set for Sunday at 1:05 EST. The Orioles are likely to stick with Jorge Lopez for the series finale. Lopez was hit hard by the Yankees failing to make it out of the fourth inning while surrendering four runs.
Meanwhile, the Red Sox should have Nick Pivetta ready. Pivetta was brilliant in his 2021 debut as the former Phillie held the Tampa Bay Rays scoreless over six innings. Pivetta, whose fastball touched 97 has been a revelation since being acquired last year.
So far, it has been a bit of a mixed bag for the Orioles. After dominating the Red Sox, the team struggled a bit in the Bronx against the Yankees. The team will be looking for a bounce-back effort as they return to Camden Yards.
Meanwhile, the fans will be more than ready to cheer on Trey Mancini as he makes his first home start for the 2021 Baltimore Orioles. After beating stage-3 colon cancer, fans will hopefully see Mancini’s first home run of the 2021 campaign.
