The 2021 Arizona Diamondbacks sit only four days away from their home opener of the 2021 MLB season. The team is coming off a road trip with stops in Los Angeles and Colorado and will look to take on the Cincinnati Reds at home on April 9th.
The Diamondbacks to start the season are off to a 1-3 start and the team will square off against the Cincinnati Reds who have a record of 2-1 in the early days of the regular season. The weather for the weekend series is looking to be sunny and warm for the duration of the weekend.
This will be the first of two scheduled series between the two teams in 2021.
2021 Arizona Diamondbacks: Back in the Desert
The start time for the first game of the three-game series is 6:40 MST. Starting for the Reds in the first game is Tyler Mahle and the Diamondbacks have yet to release who the starter for the series will be. But with the way the rotation has gone through the first few games, fans should expect to see Caleb Smith, Taylor Widener, and Luke Weaver as the starters for the series.
The 2021 Arizona Diamondbacks will look to turn around the offense early on as the team has been outscored 20-12 and the teams pitching although yes it is early, will look to wear off the rust that’s lead to a team ERA of 4.91. The Diamondbacks lineup for the series should resemble the lineup from previous games, given how early it might be a few games before we see any major changes in the lineup.
What to Look For
Among the top hitters early on in the season, Ketel Marte will look to extend his early hot streak with Marte in a three-way tie for first place with an fWAR of 0.6 through four games. With Kole Calhoun going down, The 2021 Arizona Diamondbacks have looked to some interesting players to fill roster spots early on.
The team brought former first-round pick Pavin Smith to begin the season and recently called up the team’s fourth-ranked prospect, Shortstop Geraldo Perdomo. Fans can see the former fifth overall pick from the 2018 draft, Jonathan India, take the infield for the Cincinnati Reds.
2021 Arizona Diamondbacks fans in the series will get another look at Taylor Widener, who, in his first outing of the year, tossed six innings of shutout baseball against the San Diego Padres. The 2021 Arizona Diamondbacks, as well as fans, will get to see the first of Luke Weaver, who will be coming off his first outing of the year in Colorado since last July.
The Reds pitchers for the series will be a test for the Diamondbacks. Jeff Hoffman and Jose De Leon are both former top prospects who are looking like interesting names with both of them coming off of promising outings for a Reds team with one of the best pitching development departments in the game right now.
