ONE Championship’s US prime time debut did not go as the whole world expected. Eddie Alvarez got controversially disqualified after apparently landing strikes at the back of Iuri Lapicus’ head. In the main event, Demetrious Johnson got knocked out in the second round by a vicious knee from champion Adriano Moraes.

“You do this sport long enough, it’s bound to happen. Did I wanted it to happen? absolutely not”. Demetrious Johnson, as he always does, was able to take the loss well and handle himself in a great manner. As for what’s next for “Mighty Mouse”, he says that he’s not in the rush to compete again especially with the long training camp he had just been through.

In the post-fight interviews, Demetrious Johnson interestingly opened up about considering to try a kickboxing match in ONE Super Series.

Demetrious Johnson Interested in Kickboxing

“The beautiful thing about ONE Championship is I’m sure if I go home and I let Chatri know like, you know what, I’m gonna try a kickboxing fight”, Demetrious said. “Let’s maybe try a kickboxing fight with big gloves and say you know I had a professional kickboxing fight”, he added.

When asked about his biggest interest to partake in, other than MMA, he said “I think the biggest one is probably kickboxing. I have no interest in Muay Thai and little gloves. Submission grappling would be dope but a lot of things can happen in grappling. You know, you can tear major ligaments and take you out of competition for a long time. So, I’ve always been a big fan of kickboxing, K1 days”

“I have a little more time left in my professional career and I don’t want to look back on it like, man I should do have done kickboxing. I have the opportunity to do”

Taking on adventures and new challenges are a thing for Demetrious Johnson. Being the best MMA fighter for over 6 years (in the UFC), his interest in having a kickboxing match is amusing. His approach to his career as of the moment should be a model for all fighters. Don’t leave any regrets, and just do what you want to do!
