MLB Breaking News: No-No in San Diego

MLB Breaking News: History has been made in San Diego. Padres pitcher Joe Musgrove has thrown not only his first career no-hitter but the first no-hitter in Padres’ team history, officially giving every MLB team at least one no-hitter.

MLB Breaking News: Musgrove Makes History

Just eight games into the season the Musgrove and the Padres have thrown the first MLB no-hitter of 2021 in a 3-0 victory over the Texas Rangers. Aside from Musgrove setting Padres history, catcher Victor Caratini becomes the second in MLB history to catch two consecutive no-hitters with two separate teams (Cubs Alec Mills no-hitter September 13, 2020).

Joe Musgrove

Musgrove was born and raised in El Cajon, California which is just 17 miles from downtown San Diego. With his close ties to San Diego Musgrove grow up a Padres fan but he did not get his chance to dawn a Padres uniform at Petco Park until he made his debut with them less than a week when he took the mound against Arizona after being dealt from Pittsburgh in the offseason.

Game Statistics

The star of the show Joe Musgrove pitched nine innings strong, allowing no hits while allowing one baserunner, said baserunner was Rangers slugger Joey Gallo in the fourth inning when he was hit by a pitch. Musgrove stuck out 10 Rangers hitters. Things were not as glorious for his counterpart Kohei Arihara who pitched four innings allowing five hits, two earned runs, and striking out one batter. The Padres RBIs came courtesy of the third baseman Manny Machado and Right Fielder Will Myers while the no-hitter was caught by Victor Caratini, who went one-for-three at the plate.

MLB Breaking News: The Rundown

The home town boy made history in San Diego throwing his first no-hitter and the Padres first no-hitter in just his second start with his hometown team. Victor Caratini becomes the second catcher to catch back-to-back no-hitters with two separate teams. It seems as though the new faces in San Diego came to play. Your moves, Blake Snell and Yu Darvish.
