April 10th, 2021 at UFC Vegas 23, Undefeated Welshman Jack Shore (14-0) made his return to the octagon against Hunter Azure (9-2). Coming out on top of perhaps his most difficult fight to date with a rather surprising split decision win where it appeared that Shore had taken charge of all three rounds.
Join us, as we break down the 3 main reasons that Jack Shore will be the first Welsh UFC Champion.
MMA Wrestling
In all 14 of Jack Shore’s wins to date, it is obvious to the onlooking eye that his wrestling is on another level to his opponents, and this was the exciting prospect of his latest victory over Azure.
Azure is a high-level wrestler, it has always been speculated that a traditional wrestling based American holds an advantage over their British counterparts, Shore’s latest win surely brings a end to the speculation with showcasing what he called in a post fight interview ‘MMA Wrestling’ as we saw Azure fail with a 0% success rate of takedown attempts (0/6), to Jack Shore’s 47% success rate with (6/13).
Jack Shore trains out of Shore MMA, with his wrestling coach Carl Parker who specifically focuses on training the athletes in wrestling made for today’s modern MMA, not the traditional style we may be used to seeing from our American counterparts.
Parker trains wrestling to some of the most promising talent in MMA, with names such as Jack Shore, Brett John’s, Jack Marshman, Oban Elliott and Josh Reed just to name a few, no doubt we will be treated to far more wrestling MMA spectacles in the near future.
Father and Son
You don’t have to look far back in Welsh sporting history to see a successful father and son fighting team.
Immediately springing to mind Hall of Fame (46-0) undefeated World Champion boxer Joe Calzaghe who spent the majority of his successful career with his father Enzo Calzaghe by his side.
Why does this make a difference? this is difficult to explain. In Wales, we hold a special relationship with our fathers, they are our right arm, our source of knowledge, and that one person that never fails to keep our feet firmly on the floor.
This is what makes this team so special, with Jack and Richard Shore we’re not just seeing a head coach and his fighter, we’re seeing a father and his son. The one person that knows your limits better than anybody else.
Jack Shore Destined for UFC Greatness

To finish simply, Jack Shore is destined for greatness, he has fought as the underdog and the favourite every time showing the same levels of dedication and immaculate technique.
Shore has been compared on many occasions to GSP by Hall of Famer former Middleweight World Champion Michael Bisping.
This is down to his very high-level technical style of fighting, as previously mentioned, his wrestling/grappling game is of a world-class level but can he strike? Ask his coach Gary Lockett the former professional boxer who himself challenged for World championships.
Jack Shore has the right mix of ability, a great team around him, and the desire to be as successful as he wants to be, and if you have spoken with Shore, you will know there is nothing that he wants more.
