Jan Blachowicz and Glover Teixeira To Fight At UFC 266

The fight we’ve all been waiting for between Jan Blachowicz and Glover Teixeira will take place at UFC 266 for the Light Heavyweight Championship. Dana White informed ESPN on the matchup, with this being the first fight announced for the UFC event on September 4th. The UFC hasn’t announced a location for the event. Neither have they confirmed whether Jan Blachowicz and Glover Teixeira will be the main event, but it’s more than likely.

MMA Veterans Jan Blachowicz and Glover Teixeira Fight For the Light Heavyweight Belt

Jan Blachowicz (28-8, 11-5 UFC) defends his title for the second time after his first defense came possibly in the greatest win of his career against Israel Adesanya. Blachowicz was too strong for the middleweight champion, winning on a unanimous decision and taking the zero from “The Last Stylebender’s” undefeated record.

He worked tirelessly to become champion, with Blachowicz losing four of his first six fights in the promotion. He bounced back from October 2017 to September 2018, as he was victorious in four fights before facing Thiago Santos. In that fight, Jan was knocked out in the third round by Santos, which put another setback on his career.

At UFC 239, Blachowicz started his path to glory by knocking out Luke Rockhold with a stunning left hook that led to the ground and pound finish. Followed by a split decision win over Jacare Souza four months later, which paved the way to a rematch against Corey Anderson. Anderson was the winner of the first fight, but not the second. A deadly right-hook would see Anderson drop to the floor, knocked out cold. Blachowicz landed a single hammer fist after the right-hook, and it wasn’t even needed to finish him off, as Anderson was already done!

With Jon Jones vacating the light heavyweight belt, a matchup between Blachowicz and Dominick Reyes was on the cards for the vacant title. In that fight, Blachowicz showed how far he’s come and how much he has improved by knocking out Reyes in the second round to win the belt, and become Poland’s first Male UFC champion.

Glover Teixeira (32-7, 15-5 UFC) will be fighting for the light heavyweight title for the second time in his career. His first title-shot came at UFC 172 in 2014 against Jones. A dominant display by Jones would see him win via unanimous decision, winning every round.

At 41 years of age, Teixeira looks better than ever. When he lost to Anderson in 2018, the following year he came back on a mission to prove he was good enough for another title-shot. In 2019, he came away with two submission victories over Karl Roberson and Ion Cutelaba, whilst he was victorious on a split decision against Nikita Krylov.

In one of the most dominant performances we’ve ever witnessed in the UFC, his knockout win over Anthony Smith made him one step closer to that title shot. It was another staggering performance from Glover, and submitting Santos at UFC Vegas 13 showed he was worthy of fighting for the belt. There was no doubt Jan Blachowicz and Glover Teixeira had to fight for the title after Blachowicz beat Adesanya. Glover now gets what he deserves, and the fans get what they want to see!

With Jan Blachowicz and Glover Teixeira being the only fight announced on the card so far, more fights will be added in the upcoming months. Also make sure to tune in to Reyes vs Jiri Prochazka on May 1st, as both fighters wish to have a convincing win and get that belt!
