The Arizona Diamondbacks and Kansas City Royals are the latest teams to join the 2021 MLB trades action. The Royals will be sending outfielder Nick Heath to the Arizona Diamondbacks and, in return, will receive pitching prospect, Eduardo Herrera.
2021 MLB Trades: More Speed in the Desert
Nick Heath was recently DFA’d by the Royals on Wednesday and will now get a fresh start for the Diamondbacks. The 27-year-old outfielder made his major league debut last season and only managed 18 career plate appearances. The speedy outfielder swiped 50 bags in 2019 at the Double-A level and, when given a chance, will look to bring that speed as depth to an outfield with fellow speedster Tim Locastro along with Kole Calhoun and David Peralta. Heath to start may have trouble finding playing time with the depth the Diamondbacks have with so many players able to play the outfield.
Eduardo Herrera, the other part of one of the first 2021 MLB trades, will be heading to the Royals, is a 21-year-old prospect who originally signed as an international free agent in 2016, originally signed as a catcher/infielder but has now converted to the mound. Herrrera made his debut in 2018 and has yet to make an appearance above Class-A.
This segment of 2021 MLB trades is simple as Nick Heath heads to the Diamondbacks as extra depth and the Royals get a young arm they can develop, a win-win move for both teams. Diamondback fans could see Heath be called up given the environment of the league with covid and its protocols, Herrera is still a long way away from major league action.
