The 2021 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix is in the books. Imola, Italy threw everything it could at the starting grid on Sunday with rain soaking parts of the track, while other parts were completely dry. That did not stop the two heavyweights of the field in Mercedes and Red Bull from going at it once the lights went out and the race began.
2021 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix: Max Verstappen Dominates for Redbull
The Winner for the 11th time of his career and his first win in Italy, Max Verstappen drove a flawless race from start to finish and was never in any real danger of losing his first place position for the entire race, he finished with a 22 second lead over Lewis Hamilton.
It would help that defending world champion and the 2021 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix pole-sitter Lewis Hamilton spun out in the first part of the race, going a lap down and needing repairs, he had taken himself out of contention for the win. That did not stop Lewis Hamilton as he would drive the Mercedes from 9th position all the way back to 2nd, finishing on the podium as runner up to the winner Max Verstappen.
The McLaren F1 team had plenty to celebrate on Sunday in Imola, as Lando Norris pilots the car to a podium finish behind Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton, Lando Norris finished in the 3rd position after Lewis Hamilton passed the McLaren with only a few laps remaining. Lando Norris’s teammate Daniel Riccardo drove a solid race and brought the McLaren F1 team more points as he finished in 6th place behind the Ferrari’s.
The Ferrari F1 team would finish 4th and 5th in their home country, Charles Leclerc finished in 4th place while teammate Carlos Sainz grabs the top 5 finish as he comes in 5th place. Canadian Lance Stroll would be the only Aston Martin to finish the race in Italy, finishing in 7th place, while his teammate Sebastian Vettel did not finish due to gearbox issues.
2021 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix: Plenty of Drama
The Race was action-packed and the weather made it challenging for every team and their drivers, Williams driver George Russell and Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas would collide and take each other out of the race, the crash resulted in a red flag which was the first red flag since 2018. The crash would evidently allow Lewis Hamilton to regain the lap he lost when he spun out earlier in the race. Canadian Nicholas Latifi was unable to finish the race as well leaving Williams F1 with no points in Imola.
2021 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix: Haas F1 Team Struggled, Both Drivers Finish the Race
The Haas F1 team struggled, again, with both drivers spinning and crashing multiple times during the race, both drivers would get their cars across the finish line and completed the race which is a positive sign for the team going forward. Mick Schumacher finished in 16th place while teammate Nikita Mazepin finishes in 17th place.
It was a wild race with plenty of crashes, spins, and drama throughout the field. In the end, it was Redbull taking number one while Mercedes relied on Lewis Hamilton to get them on the podium.
