MLB Breaking News: Acuna Out With Abdominal Strain

The Atlanta Braves have not gotten off to a hot start as many had predicted. However, some MLB breaking news will send baseball fans and Braves fans spiraling. After making a run to the NLCS last October before losing to the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Braves had high hopes coming into 2021. However, through the first couple of weeks, they sit at 7-9 and have already suffered a couple of key injuries, including to Max Fried and now their star Ronald Acuna Jr.

Acuna left Sunday’s game against the Chicago Cubs early due to pain in his lower abdominal muscles, per the Atlanta Braves Twitter account.

The injury sent Braves’ fans into a frenzy and had the fanbase holding their breath wondering how long and how major the impact to the superstar is. After all, he is off to a blazing hot start during the first month of the season. So, the hope is that the Ronald Acuna Jr. injury isn’t a long-term issue, especially with the expectations the Braves had to begin the season.

MLB Breaking News: Ronald Acuna Jr. Dodges Bullet With Abdominal Strain

Acuna is arguably the most valuable player on the Atlanta roster and here’s why. Through 16 games in April, he has 26 hits, seven homers, and 16 RBIs. He is hitting an unworldly .419 at the plate and has a .887 slugging percentage. He leads the majors in batting average, hits, runs scored (21), home runs, slugging percentage, and OPS (1.373). He’s second in RBIs behind J.D. Martinez and third in OBP behind Mike Trout and Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

That’s pretty darn good, and he’s already made records in the early phases of this season by putting his name next to several MLB legends.

Simply put, being without Acuna Jr. for even 10 days would be tough for this team. Ender Inciarte and Cristian Pache are already on the shelf, and another outfielder- especially with the talent and importance of Acuna- would be detrimental for the Braves.

The good news is he is only considered day-to-day and the Braves and Acuna seemed to dodge a major bullet this time.

All in all, this MLB breaking news looms large for the Braves, especially with a series against the New York Yankees set to kick off on Tuesday.
