Denver Broncos Top Three Needs: 3 Positions of Great Need at Mile High

Even though they had a great offseason, the Denver Broncos’ top three needs are linebacker, offensive tackle, and quarterback. The Denver Broncos have hit their major needs this offseason with trades and free agency signings. They hit hard on their weak secondary by re-signing Justin Simmons, signing Kareem Jackson for a cheaper deal, signing Kyle Fuller, and picking up Ronald Darby. They also brought back Shelby Harris which after cutting Jurrell Casey was a need. Even after the amazing job, George Paton did this offseason there are still three major areas that the Denver Broncos are thin at.

Denver Broncos Top Three Needs: Linebacker

The Denver Broncos have solid starting linebackers with A.J. Johnson, Josey Jewell, Von Miller, and Bradley Chubb. The thing that the Broncos need from this position in depth. By having Miller back from injury, Malik Reed may see less time but adds some good talent as a backup. Adding some big-time rushers from the draft will also be necessary just in case of an injury. Denver should key in on a second or third-round LB to help make this group solid.

Denver Broncos Top Three Needs: Offensive Tackle

Even though the offensive line has gotten better this year, linemen are one of the Denver Broncos top three needs. Garett Bolles has got a well-deserved four-year contract. Lloyd Cushenberry III had a good season at center for a rookie. Graham Glasgow and Dalton Risner did well and look to build on a solid season last year. The only problem is the one tackle spot. Elijah Wilkinson didn’t live up to his huge contract and signed with the Bears. The other OL that can pick up the spot is Ja’Wuan James. James has proven himself multiple times but it would nice to have insurance for him. Some competition for James could also make his game better this upcoming season.

The 2021 Draft features a deep offensive line class, and the Broncos have multiple opportunities to add to the position group. With the number nine overall pick, the Broncos could target Rashawn Slater out of Northwester, a mauling tackle with a ton of talent. Even if the Broncos wait until the second or third round, depth players will certainly be available.

Denver Broncos Top Three Needs: Quarterback

Whether Drew Lock is the guy next year or not, Denver needs another quarterback. Even if Lock steps up in 2021, having another great young quarterback can be good for this team. It gives competition at the position which has been lacking in Denver for years.

Another reason why Denver should go for another QB in this draft is because of the injuries in Lock. Even if he starts this year he already has had two injures in his last one and a half years that made him miss the first half of his rookie season and 3 games in 2020.

It’s hard to tell what will happen with the QB spot in Denver next year. It would be nice to get a top-five quarterback in the draft and hopefully end this long stretch of mediocre playing in the future. The Broncos can address this with their early first-round draft choice in the upcoming draft. They pick at No. 9 overall, and at least one of the top available quarterbacks should land in their lap if no other team trades ahead.

Denver Broncos Top Three Needs Recap

Overall, the Denver Broncos have done a good job hitting on their needs this offseason. If George Paton can fill these three big spots in the upcoming draft, this team can easily make the playoffs in 2021 and cause some real noise in the future.
