Phillips vs Assuncao has officially been added to the UFC Fight Night card on July 24th. The crafty Brazilian looks to end his three-fight losing streak with a win over the 9-1 rising prospect. Phillips vs Assuncao was first reported by Kyler Phillips on Instagram. Since then it has been announced by multiple media outlets.
Raphael Assuncao has been through everything the MMA fight game could throw at him. Unfortunately, he now finds himself in a tough spot after losing three straight UFC fights. Yet, all it takes is one win to get right back on track to his lifelong goal of being a UFC champion. Assuncao is going to need to be in prime shape as he is put up against one of the fastest rising prospects in the division, “The Matrix”.
The MMA Lab in Arizona has produced many UFC fighters, but they have recently hit the jackpot with Phillips. He carries a 3-0 UFC record with improvement shown every fight. If he continues to improve and rack up wins, it will only be a matter of time before he is fighting for UFC gold.
Assuncao Looks to End Skid Against an Unpredictable Prospect
Raphael Assuncao (27-8, 11-5 UFC) began his pro career 17 years ago before one day getting signed by the UFC. After going 3-2 in the WEC, he was signed to the UFC to spice up the Featherweight division. Since losing his UFC debut to Erik Koch, Assuncao managed to go 11-4 with wins over TJ Dillashaw, Aljamain Sterling, Marlon Moraes, and Rob Font. Unfortunately, Assuncao now finds himself on a three-fight losing streak against some of the best of the UFC Bantamweight division (Moraes, Sandhagen, and Garbrandt). He now looks to put his career back on track with a win in this awesome Phillips vs Assuncao matchup.
Kyler Phillips (9-1, 3-0 UFC) was first seen in the UFC when he fought on The Ultimate Fighter 27. Unfortunately, Phillips lost a tough majority decision to the TUF 27 winner Brad Katona. After losing to Katona, Phillips lost one and won one before officially being signed to the UFC. He has made most of the opportunity since as he started his UFC career 3-0 with wins against Gabriel Silva, Cameron Else, and Yadong Song. Phillips continues to improve and now finds himself with a durable veteran ready to offer him a war.
Phillips vs Assuncao Added to July 24th UFC Card
With the July 24th card not finalized, keep in mind that more fights will be added and some could potentially drop off the card. Because of this, the order of bouts could also be changed. With that being said, here is the current lineup for the July 24th UFC Card:
- Aspen Ladd (9-1) vs Macy Chiasson (7-1) @ 135 lbs.
- Raphael Assuncao (27-8) and Kyler Phillips (9-1) @ 135 lbs.
