In MLB breaking news, Los Angeles Dodgers right-handed pitcher Dustin May left his start after 1.1 innings against the Colorado Rockies after pulling up wincing on the mound and called the athletic trainer out to the mound before being removed from the game May first game. May ended up having damaged his UCL and will sit out the season recovering from Tommy John Surgery on May 11.

The MLB breaking news is a huge loss to a Dodgers squad that sits behind the San Francisco Giants by half a game for the division lead. The 23-year-old May made five starts for the Los Angeles Dodgers and had an early-season breakout through his five turns on the bump. May finishes his season with a 2.74 ERA with 35 strikeouts through 23 innings pitched.

MLB Breaking News: Who Fills In?

According to team manager Dave Roberts, the Dodgers rotation without May for the short term mentioned the three off days in the team’s next 11 days as a factor in the decision. Dave Roberts also mentioned that right-handed pitcher Tony Gonsolin would be built up as a starter up to five innings/75 pitches which Roberts projects will take three to four weeks to complete.

A rotation that already includes Clayton Kershaw, Trevor Bauer, Julio Urias, and Walker Buehler, the team will likely look at multiple options to fill the final spot given they’re still missing David Price who is currently recovering from a hamstring strain. The Dodgers minor league options that could possibly get a look at major league action in 2021 include Mitchell White, top prospect Josiah Gray. In a corresponding move, the Dodgers claimed RHP Phil Bickford off waivers from the Milwaukee brewers and designated Mike Kickham for assignment.
