O’Malley vs Smolka has officially been added to the UFC 264 card on July 10th. The ‘Sugar Show’ Sean O’Malley looks to take one step closer to a title shot as he goes up against one of the most experienced fighters in the whole division. O’Malley vs Smolka was first reported by Ryan J. Frederick on Twitter. Since then it has been confirmed by multiple media outlets.
Sean O’Malley has been a superstar since the moment he got a first-round KO on Dana White’s Contender Series. Nearly four years since signing his UFC contract, and he has experienced show-stopping finishes, a disappointing loss, a long suspension, and an unbelievable amount of support from MMA fans. He now finds himself against arguably his toughest opponent yet, as he takes on the durable veteran Louis Smolka.
On the other side of the octagon, Louis Smolka looks to build off his win at UFC Vegas 16 with an upset over the fan favorite Sugar Show. Smolka has had his ups and downs, but his experience and well-rounded fight style gives him the ability to beat anyone at 135 pounds. Most people will take O’Malley because of the flashy skills and massive potential, but let me be the first to tell you that Smolka has every tool needed to pull off this upset.
Smolka Looks to Slow Down ‘The Suga Show’ on His Rise to Super Stardom
Sean “Sugar Show” O’Malley (13-1, 5-1 UFC) was first seen in the UFC when he fought on the Dana White Contender Series back in 2017. He made the best of the opportunity with a first-round KO win against Alfred Khashakyan that lead to Dana White awarding him his UFC contract. Since joining the UFC, O’Malley has managed a 5-1 UFC record with his only loss coming against Marlon Vera at UFC 252. After another electrifying finish against Thomas Almeida at UFC 260, O’Malley now finds himself right back on track with the hopes of using Smolka as his stepping stone into the Bantamweight rankings.
Louis “Da Last Samurai” Smolka (17-7, 11-7 UFC) began his pro career nine years ago before being signed by the UFC in 2014. Smolka started off his UFC career with an impressive 5-1 start before losing four in a row to the absolute killers of the 125 lbs division. After being cut by the UFC in 2018, Smolka reinvented himself at 135 pounds and ultimately got resigned to the UFC only three fights later. Since rejoining the UFC, Smolka has gone 3-2 at 135 pounds with impressive finishes over Su Mudaerji, Ryan MacDonald, and Jose Quinonez. Smolka now finds himself with a huge opportunity to display his talents on the massive PPV that is UFC 264: Poirier vs. McGregor 3.
