The 2021 KC Royals are currently sitting atop of the American League Central and their minor-league teams are set for their opening day this week. KC has brought back familiar faces in Greg Holland, Wade Davis, and Jarrod Dyson during the 2021 season. Now, the Royals have signed Alcides Escobar to a deal. Escobar will report to Triple-A Omaha to start the season.
2021 KC Royals: Esky Is Back
Alcides Escobar started his MLB career in the Milwaukee Brewers organization and was later acquired by the Kansas City Royals in a trade that involved former Cy Young winner Zack Greinke. In his time with the Brew Crew, Escobar only played 192 games over a three-year span.
Once Esky made it to KC, things began to change for him. Escobar played in over 155 games each season until the 2015 season. During his time in KC, Esky was a one-time All-Star and one-time Gold Glove winner.
Along with these acholades, Esky was the ALCS MVP in 2015 with Kansas City.
Escobar’s greatest moment may have come during the 2015 World Series against the New York Mets. During Game 1 of the Fall Classic, Esky took a big swing at the first pitch in the bottom of the first inning from Matt Harvey. Esky hit an inside-the-park home run to kick off the game and created what was one of the loudest ovations in Kauffman Stadium history.
