Hawes vs Winn has officially been added to the UFC card on July 10th. Phil Hawes looks to take one step closer to being ranked, as he goes up against one of the best wrestlers in the UFC, Deron Winn. Hawes vs Winn was first reported by James Lynch in an interview with Phil Hawes. Since then, it has been confirmed by multiple media outlets.

Phil Hawes has been a serious threat at 185 pounds since winning his UFC contract on Dana White’s Contender Series last year. Less than one full year later, Hawes has now won all three of his UFC fights. After getting his third win at UFC Vegas 26, Hawes now finds himself scheduled to fight his toughest stylistic matchup yet.

On the other side of the octagon, Deron Winn looks to build off his win at UFC Vegas 17 by making it two straight. Winn showed major improvements in his last fight after a tough two-fight skid. He now looks to use his world-class wrestling skills to take one step closer to be a ranked Middleweight. Hawes vs Winn has the potential to be a stylistic masterpiece and it all goes down on July 17th.

Deron Winn Looks To Make a Statement Against “Megatron”

Phil “Megatron” Hawes (11-2, 3-0 UFC) was first seen in the UFC when he lost the first fight of The Ultimate Fighter 23. After going 1-1 in his next two fights, Hawes lost against surging UFC contender Julian Marquez on Dana White’s Contender Series 2017. Hawes was forced to make some major adjustments and ultimately got invited back to the Contender Series last year. He made the most of this opportunity; getting a first-round KO and earning his UFC contract.

Since joining the UFC, Hawes has won all three of his fights in less than one year. The UFC was impressed with Hawes to the point where they double-booked him fights for UFC Vegas 26 and this fight with Winn on July 17th. With devastating power and cardio to match it, Hawes has the ability to pose a threat to anyone that gets in his way. Hawes now finds himself with the opportunity to take one step closer to being a Middleweight title contender by beating Deron Winn.

Deron Winn (7-2, 2-2 UFC) is one of the most credentialed wrestlers in the UFC. Since transitioning to MMA in 2017, Winn has shown potential flashes that say he could evolve into a future UFC title contender. He started off his MMA career 5-0 with wins in LFA, Bellator, and URCC. After his co-main event win on the Liddell vs Ortiz 3 card, the UFC decided it was time to give him a shot.

Winn made the most of his UFC debut with a win over Eric Spicely. Since winning his UFC debut, Winn went on a two-fight skid against Darren Stewart and Gerald Meerschaert. After making some major improvements in his MMA skills, he came back to win a gritty unanimous decision at the end of 2020 against Antonio Arroyo. With a tremendous work ethic and top-tier training at the American Kickboxing Academy, you can never count Winn out of potentially fighting for a UFC belt one day. Winn will look to ride the momentum from his last win into this upcoming bout against “Megatron” on July 17th.
