UFC Vegas 26 is in the books and it ended up being quite the unpredictable night of fights. This underrated UFC event featured questionable judging, underdogs prevailing, and several performances deserving of performance bonuses. Before the main card got underway on ESPN, three fights were featured on the UFC Vegas 26 prelims. Although it was only three fights, the prelims featured a submission worthy of $50,000, a +200 underdog getting the win, and “The Iron Turtle” dominating once again. As the dust now settles from last night, all three winners from the UFC Vegas 26 prelims deserve recognition for their performances.

Carlston Harris Starts the UFC Vegas 26 Prelims With a Statement

It is not often that we see Guyanese fighters in the UFC, but they put on a show when we do. Carlston Harris has had a long journey to the UFC before making his debut last night. Harris fought in many different promotions as he pulled together a 15-4 record with wins over two current UFC fighters. He finally got noticed when he was featured on Dana White’s Looking for a Fight. His well-rounded skills were given a platform and Harris ultimately got his chance in the UFC at the UFC Vegas 26 prelims.

Harris managed to exceed all expectations by finishing Christian Aguilera in the first round by Anaconda Choke. His transitions to the choke were so slick that Aguilera didn’t notice until he was already asleep. Not only was this Harris’ UFC debut, but his submission was also worthy of $50,000 from the UFC as a performance bonus. Harris made a statement last night and only had 2.5 minutes to display his skills. It will be interesting to see him progress as he continues his path to being the first Guyanese UFC champion.

Jun Yong Park Dominates Once Again

Jun Yong Park has one of the best nicknames in MMA with “The Iron Turtle”. Luckily for Park, his fighting skills happen to be even better than his nickname. Park came into this fight with a 2-1 UFC record after winning his last two by unanimous decision. Despite dominating his past two UFC fights, Park came into this fight as a +110 underdog. Nonetheless, he took on a tough fight against Tafon Nchukwi and managed to find himself in the win column once again.

Park pulled off the majority decision win (29-26, 30-25, and 28-28) to advance to 13-4. This fight had a little of everything, as it featured an awful scorecard (28-28), a point deduction from Nchukwi for eye pokes, and brutal ground and pound from Park that led to enough blood to fill a bathtub. After this fight, you can be ensured that Park will never be underestimated again. Only time will tell who will be next for Park, but whoever signs the contract better be ready for his quick jab and nasty elbows.

Mike Trizano Proves the Vegas Betting Odds Wrong

The UFC Vegas 26 prelims ended with a certified banger between Mike Trizano and Ludovit Klein. Most people saw Klein as one of the most dangerous unranked fighters in the division, but Trizano showed once again he is always down for a challenge. We were first introduced to Trizano when he was featured on The Ultimate Fighter 27. He ended up becoming the season champion of TUF 27 and earning his UFC contract after beating Joe Giannetti in the finals. Since joining the UFC, Trizano managed to edge out two split decision wins before losing his first pro fight to Grant Dawson. Trizano had to go back to the drawing board and make adjustments along the path to the UFC Vegas 26 prelims.

He pulled off the unanimous decision win (29-28, 29-28, and 30-27) over Klein to advance to 9-1. Not only did he get the win, but Trizano proved the Vegas oddsmakers wrong after coming in at a +200 underdog. His display of heart and improved skills has MMA fans excited to see what is next for the TUF 27 winner. No matter who the UFC decides to put Trizano up against next, it is guaranteed he will be ready to give them a war on his path to being ranked.
