The big week for Seattle continues with another top prospect getting their promotion as the Logan Gilbert call-up is imminent, per Jeff Passan.

Seattle’s former 2018 first round draft pick, Gilbert is the second call-up this week with the news earlier that top prospect Jarred Kelenic would be called up for Thursday’s game as well. Kelenic, who was also a first round draft pick in 2018, would debut alongside Gilbert.

Gilbert, a tall right handed starting pitcher, reportedly will also start the Thursday game against the Cleveland Indians.

Logan Gilbert Call-Up: What to Expect from Gilbert

The Logan Gilbert call-up is the another piece of the Mariner long-term rebuild coming to fruition this Thursday.

There is a reason that Gilbert is on the list of top 100 prospects. Coming in at number 28, Gilbert dominated minor league hitters posting 2.13 ERA and striking out 165 batters in a 2019 season that saw him play in three different levels of the Mariner organization.

Gilbert boasts a four pitch mix with a fastball that touches 97 but is regularly in the mid-90’s. Along with the fastball, he has an impressive slider, a curve and a change up which scouts think could be his best pitch. Control hasn’t been a problem for Gilbert. He has shown that he can throw all four pitches for strikes and has a strikeout to walk ratio in the minors of 170:33.

The Mariners know that their prospects are starting to become ready and Logan is the first of many pitchers Seattle has that are nearing their time including another first round pick in George Kirby.

Thursday’s game against the Indians now has fans incredibly excited as they get to see two of the top prospects in baseball make their debut at the same time. Gilbert and Kelenic are just two of the many young guns that Seattle has, and seeing them together in T-Mobile Park, will give fans a glimpse into the future of Seattle Mariner baseball.
