Should Giannis Antetokounmpo be in the top 3 of MVP voting?

The Bucks have had a very good season, with Giannis Antetokounmpo leading them to a 3rd seed in a very competitive Eastern Conference, but should Giannis Antetokounmpo be in the top 3 of MVP voting?

Giannis’ MVP Case

If you think about it logically, then yes, he should definitely be in the top 3 of MVP voting this season, after putting up 28/11/6 on 57% from the field and 30% from beyond the arc.

The only reason that Giannis’ MVP case hasn’t been talked about this year is due to voter fatigue, meaning that fewer people would likely vote for Giannis as he has already won it the past two years running.

Despite voter fatigue, the most valuable player award should definitely go to the most valuable player, as it says in the award description. Still, the media and voters will certainly want a different name engraved on the Kia MVP trophy.

How Valuable is Giannis to the Bucks?

The Bucks are 6-4 without Antetokounmpo this season, which, yes, is a small sample size, but that stat also shows how vital he is to the team, which surely gives a strong argument for Antetokounmpo’ MVP case.

Other MVP Candidates

Now yes, he may have had an MVP-worthy season, however, there are plenty of other candidates that you could definitely give a strong argument for having more MVP votes than him this season, for example:

Nikola Jokic: 26/11/8 – played every game.

Joel Embiid: 29/11/3 – 51 games played

Steph Curry: 32/6/6 – 62 games played

Concluding thoughts:

In my honest opinion, Antetokounpo should obviously not be the 2021 MVP, as that title will most likely belong to Nikola Jokic. However, the question is should Giannis Antetokounmpo be in the top 3 of MVP voting? I do believe that there is a case for Giannis’ MVP votes being in the top 3 this year.
