San Francisco 49ers 2021 Schedule Release: Analysis, Predictions and More

We are finally at that moment in the offseason where free agency is done and we have the draft experience. Next up in the offseason calendar is the schedule release. In this article, we take a look at who the San Francisco 49ers will face off against in the upcoming 2021 season.

Over here at Overtime Heroics we will be breaking down every team’s schedule and giving you our opinion on whether or not they will win or not. So without further ado here we go with the San Francisco 49ers 2021 schedule.

49ers 2021 Schedule: First Half

Week One | 9/12/2021 | San Francisco 49ers @ Detroit Lions

First up for the 49ers is a chance to get off to a winning start. San Francisco travels to Detroit to take on a team that is in a full rebuild. Their defense will be going up against a quarterback that they know well in Jared Goff, only this time he doesn’t have the same degree of weapons he used to have in LA. Despite going away from home this should be an easy start for the 49ers.

Prediction: 49ers win 31-10

Week Two | 9/19/2021 | San Francisco 49ers @ Philadelphia Eagles

Another road game in Week Two of the season sees the 49ers take on the Philadelphia Eagles. In Week Two the strong 49ers defense gets to take on the second-year quarterback Jalen Hurts. Yet another team that is in rebuild mode and yet another team that shouldn’t pose any real issues for the 49ers. San Francisco gets off to a 2-0 start.

Prediction: 49ers win 24-17

Week Three | 9/27/2021 | Green Bay Packers @ San Francisco 49ers

The first game in Santa Clara sees the Green Bay Packers come to town. Two heavyweights of the NFC go face to face in what could easily be a preview of an NFC playoff game. San Francisco’s biggest concern in this game is who will be the quarterback lining up opposite them. If it is anyone other than Aaron Rodgers then it will be a third straight win for the 49ers. Unfortunately, I think it will be Rodgers and it will be the first loss of the season for the San Francisco 49ers.

Prediction: 49ers lose 38-27

Week Four | 10/3/2021 | Seattle Seahawks @ San Francisco 49ers

We have to wait until week four to get the first divisional matchup for the 49ers and it should be a great one. Seattle makes the trip south to try and get one over on their divisional rivals. Unfortunately for the Seahawks, it will not be a fruitful trip. San Francisco lost both games in 2020 but will get revenge in 2021. Now that they have their players back from injury the 49ers are a different animal. An animal that a Seahawk can’t best.

Prediction: 49ers win 20-17

Week Five | 10/10/2021 | San Francisco 49ers @ Arizona Cardinals

Just like buses, you wait ages for one, and then two come along at once. Another divisional game for the 49ers in the space of two weeks. The toughest division in football will have exciting matchups all year long and this one will be no different. We will either see Kyler Murray up against the veteran Jimmy Garoppolo or he will be up against the new kid in the division Trey Lance. Either way, the 49ers will lose their second game of the season after they make the trip to Arizona.

Prediction: 49ers lose 23-10

Week Six | Bye

Week Seven | 10/25/2021 | Indianapolis Colts @ San Francisco 49ers

By this point in the season, we will see just how good Carson Wentz really is. If he can make it work with his old offensive coordinator Frank Reich then the Colts will be a formidable force. On the other hand, if we see the 2020 version of Carson Wentz then the 49er’s defense should be strong enough to see off the challenge of Indianapolis. By the seventh week of the season, Wentz will have worked out his issues and be back on track. The colts get the win in this one.

Prediction: 49ers lose 23-17

Week Eight | 10/31/2021 | San Francisco 49ers @ Chicago Bears

Who will be the quarterback for the Chicago Bears in Week Eight? It has to be Justin Fields right? He is certainly the quarterback who will give the Bears the best chance to compete in the NFC. If he suits up then he might just show the 49ers what they missed out on and make them realize who should have been the number three pick in the 2021 draft. As good as I think Fields will be, he doesn’t have the supporting cast to beat the 49ers. San Francisco gets back above .500.

Prediction: 49ers win 30-20

Week Nine | 11/7/2021 | Arizona Cardinals @ San Francisco 49ers

Revenge for the 49ers in week nine as they welcome the Cardinals to Santa Clara for the reverse fixture. After slipping up in week five the 49ers get revenge in a big way in week nine. It’s getting to the important part of the schedule and the 49ers go on a run to take the division by storm. Comfortable win for San Francisco in this one.

Prediction: 49ers win 28-14

49ers 2021 Schedule: Second Half

Week Ten | 11/16/2021 | Los Angeles Rams @ San Francisco 49ers

Matthew Stafford and his new Los Angeles Rams travel to take on San Francisco at just the wrong moment. After wins against Chicago and Arizona, the 49ers are on a roll and continue that with a home game against the Rams. Another crucial divisional matchup and one that the 49ers lead with 73 wins and 67 losses. Kyle Shanahan has won the last four matchups against Sean McVay and that record looks to make it to five wins on the bounce.

Prediction: 49ers win 17-10

Week Eleven | 11/21/2021 | San Francisco 49ers @ Jacksonville Jaguars

Yes they have Trevor Lawrence, yes they have Travis Etienne, but they are still the Jacksonville Jaguars who might even have Tim Tebow lined up as the tight end. Urban Meyer is a great coach at the college level but the NFL is another standard. San Francisco will have far too much for the Jaguars from Duval.

Prediction: 49ers win 41-17

Week Twelve | 11/28/2021 | Minnesota Vikings @ San Francisco 49ers

With Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers currently in a power struggle, the Minnesota Vikings might be fancying their chances at the division. If that is the case the 49ers will be in for a challenge when the Vikings make the trip to Santa Clara. Kirk Cousins isn’t considered one of the best quarterbacks in the league, but his numbers suggest he might be. He has consistently performed well for the Vikings but just fails to do it in the big moments. This is one of those big moments that he will fail in again. San Francisco makes it five wins on the bounce.

Prediction: 49ers win 24-21

Week Thirteen | 12/6/2021 | San Francisco 49ers @ Seattle Seahawks

After going on a roll and getting to five wins in a row the 49ers travel to Seattle in their second last divisional match of the season. After winning the home game the 49ers go into this match full of confidence. Unfortunately, the confidence is unfounded as Seattle gets a big win to keep themselves in the division. With San Francisco boasting an 8-3 record the Seahawks need to win this one, and they do. For San Francisco, the win streak comes to an end, but this could benefit them in the long run.

Prediction: 49ers lose 24-10

Week Fourteen | 12/12/2021 | San Francisco 49ers @ Cincinnati Bengals

After lighting up teams all year, Joe Burrow and Ja’Marr Chase have no answers for the San Francisco defense. Nick Bosa is a quarterback’s worst nightmare and the Bengals offensive line can do nothing to stop him. Chase can’t do anything in this game as Burrow will be hassled and hurried all day. A strong defensive performance for San Francisco gets them back to winning ways.

Prediction: 49ers win 15-7

Week Fifteen | 12/19/2021 | Atlanta Falcons @ San Francisco 49ers

Another player that the 49ers possibly thought about drafting comes to visit. By this point in the season, we will all know if the Kyle Pitts hype is real or if he has been overvalued. Atlanta will be fighting for second place in the NFC South but the 49ers are fighting for the number one seed and with that being said it’s another win for Kyle Shanahan and crew in this one. Atlanta’s offense will be high flying but the defense won’t be able to get them the ball back in this one.

Prediction: 49ers win 26-21

Week Sixteen | 12/24/2021 | San Francisco 49ers @ Tennessee Titans

A trip to Tennessee to take on a weakened Titans team. Tennessee has lost Jonnu Smith and Corey Davis from their offense and they haven’t done enough to replace them. Their defense was their weakness last year and not enough has been done to strengthen it for the 2021 season. Luckily for the Titans, they find themselves in a weak division for 2021 and may still have a shot at the wild card, unluckily for them they won’t be getting a win when San Francisco comes to visit.

Prediction: 49ers win 24-17

Week Seventeen | 1/2/2021 | Houston Texans @ San Francisco 49ers

The final game against the AFC South is potentially the worst team in football in 2021. Who knows what will have happened with the Deshan Watson situation by this point but the chances of him being a Houston Texan are extremely slim. With no Watson, the Texans have no shot and San Francisco completes the sweep of the AFC South with a big win.

Prediction: 49ers win 31-13

Week Eighteen | 1/9/2021 | San Francisco 49ers @ Los Angeles Rams

Heading into the final week of the season the 49ers have the division tied up and are competing for the overall number one seed. With the Tampa Bay Buccaneers going for the repeat the 49ers could be the team with the best chance to beat them. If they are to do that they will need to get the rest that holding the number one record provides. The bye week is a distant memory in week six and by this point in the season getting a week off could be vital. With that in mind, the 49ers put on a strong performance and get the win over the Rams to secure the number one seed.

Prediction: 49ers win 20-17

A dominating season from the San Francisco 49ers sees them finish with a 13-4 record and the NFC West title. Back to winning ways for the most decorated NFC team and perhaps another trip to the Super Bowl awaits.
