Friday 21st of May, Legacy Fighting Alliance returns with a middleweight championship fight headlining the event. Josh Fremd vs Gregory Rodrigues is set for LFA 108 and it looks to be a closely contested matchup. Possibly the best one in promotional history. Let’s take a deep dive and look at the techniques and abilities both men possess, heading into what could be a Fight of the Year contender.
A Look at the Fighters
Josh Fremd is on a five-fight winning streak and is at a career-high coming off of three impressive flush knockout victories. The Factory X fighter, if victorious, could be looking at an entrance straight into the UFC. Fremd has amazing power in almost every aspect of MMA. The clinch work he has is so strong and very impressive. He can put your lights out almost anywhere but his clinch exits are notoriously dangerous.
Josh Fremd vs Gregory Rodrigues will crown a new middleweight champion and looks to open many doors in one of the promotion’s most stacked divisions. Both men have many advantages and very few holes in their games.
It is hard to pressure Fremd, as he has some of the most powerful check hooks in the fight game and will not hesitate to take advantage and counter strike. He can find himself to be fairly susceptible to body strikes, which is where his opponent can take advantage.
Gregory Rodrigues has devastating power to match that of Fremd. This matchup gives “Robocop” a perfect chance to capture gold and have a second attempt at entering the UFC. Rodrigues uses his feints to close in on his opponent’s body. Before his loss on Dana Whites Contender Series, he had just won via body kick KO against Brandon Hester.
Josh Fremd vs Gregory Rodrigues gives both men an opportunity to jump into the world’s top combat sports organisation. Both men pose threats everywhere in the cage, but only one man will be able to get the job done.
Josh Fremd vs Gregory Rodrigues Breakdown
Middleweight gold is on the line and now using the knowledge we have just gained, we can break down the techniques and abilities both men possess and see how each of them can get the job done. This matchup gives both athletes perfect opportunities to utilise their feints and combinations. Fremd has powerful counter hooks that can put anyone away. His calculation in striking also lets him know when to throw a punch and when to time his devastating knees. These tools could lead him to LFA gold this Friday.
Gregory Rodrigues has some of the best feints in the promotion and should look to play the cardio game, using body shots to slowly shut his opponent down but not throwing full power to maintain solid gameplay throughout the five rounds. “Robocop” has an even more impressive ground game, and although Fremd has a strong clinch game, he should avoid it to stay away from submission threats.
This fight can go either way. Disadvantages only lie in their defences. However, attacking such holes can lead to creating problems for themselves. Rodrigues should look for early takedowns to drain Fremd of his amazing cardio and possibly work a submission.
The American should push forward with pressure to the point where “Robocop” has to push back, creating a counter-strike opportunity for Fremd. If Rodrigues can pick up on the counters, he can definitely find an opponent as straight punches beat looping punches.
This Josh Fremd vs Gregory Rodrigues scrap has Fight of the Year written all over it, and, with a few title defences after winning, we could see one of these men enter the UFC soon.
