Baseball’s biggest two-way superstar, Shohei Ohtani made some major MLB Breaking News today when he announced on social media that he will be competing in the 2021 MLB Home Run Derby. Ohtani becomes the first player to announce that they will be competing in this year’s Derby.

MLB Breaking News: Ohtani’s Season

This year, Ohtani established himself as one of the best players in the history of the sport. Earlier this season, he became the first player since Babe Ruth to start a game on the mound while leading the league in home runs. Currently, Ohtani trails Vladimir Guerrer Jr. and Fernando Tatis Jr. for the home run lead in baseball, with 19 long balls on the season.

While the Angels have sputtered to a 34-35 record, Ohtani has become one of the most exciting players in baseball. After losing Mike Trout to injury, Ohtani has kept the Angels near playoff contention while pitching to a 2.71 ERA and hitting monster home runs.

MLB Breaking News: 2021 MLB Home Run Derby

Earlier this year, MLB made the controversial decision to move the 2021 All-Star Game and Home Run Derby from Atlanta, Georgia to Denver, Colorado. 2021 will be the first year that Denver will host the Mid-Summer classic, and due to the elevation factor should lead to some mammoth home runs.

It will be exciting to see who will join Ohtani in Denver and possibly see some record breaking home runs.
