Ivan Toney, the 24-year-old striker who currently plays for Brentford in the EFL Championship, is wanted by Champions League winners Chelsea. Toney signed for the West Londoners from Peterborough United last season, helping them secure promotion to the Premier League for the first time in their club’s history. Thanks to an astounding season, he is being valued at around £30 million.
Toney has bagged 31 goals and 10 assists in 45 Championship games this term and, as a result, broke Glenn Murray’s league record of 30 in 2012/13 with Crystal Palace. Chelsea are interested in potentially bringing him to Stamford Bridge this summer, in the case that they can’t secure the signature of the elusive Erling Haaland.
Will Toney Thrive in the Premier League?
It’s clear Toney has the capability to thrive in the Premier league with his dominance in the opposition penalty area. The ex-Newcastle man loves to occupy the space between defenders and hover around the 7-yard box for a clinical tap in.
His aerial presence is extremely formidable- winning 3.3 aerial duels per 90 minutes. Toney can get shots off quickly from loose balls or spilled saves, not afraid to use his strength if needs be. His finishing ability is unbelievable, only missing 10 big chances last season- one less than England and Spurs star Harry Kane. His work ethic is undeniable as he presses defenders and cuts off passing lanes. You can see why Toney would be a great singing for the Blues.
