As if being a 15-year-old playing for one of the biggest clubs in football wasn’t enough, then it just so happens you share the name with one of the biggest personalities in football of recent time. Although Arijon shares no relation to the Zlatan Ibrahimovic, no doubt it brings added attention.
One man’s attention he has caught is that of Julian Nagelsmann during Bayern Munich’s pre-season training, and you must think, with a name like Arijon Ibrahimovic, he won’t be forgotten anytime soon.
Name: Arijon Ibrahimovic
Club: Bayern Munich
Position: Attacking midfielder/box-to-box midfielder
Country: Germany (U16 2 caps)
Born in Nuremberg to Kosovan parents in 2005, Ibrahimovic- who, as previously mentioned, has no relation to Sweden star Zlatan- made his first steps in club football at Greuther Fürth at the age of just nine years old back in 2014. Ibrahimovic moved to his hometown club Nuremberg to continue his youth development.
After just four years there, the giants of German football knocked at the door and the teen joined Bayern.
During this current pre season, 15-year-old Arijon Ibrahimovic has been training with the likes of Joshua Zirkzee as Bayern Munich get ready for the 2021/22 season.
Since being a part of the youth setup at Bayern’s hugely impressive youth programme, Ibrahimovic has developed into one of the most highly regarded young talents at the club, quickly climbing through the age groups.
The youngster made his debut for Bayern’s U17 team aged just 14, where he scored two goals and assisted three times in five appearances last season. Despite being only 15 years old, Ibrahimovic is set to be a part of the U19 team this term.
Since coming to the attention of Julian Nagelsmann, Ibrahimovic has joined up with first-team squad during their pre-season ahead of the 2021/22 campaign.
Ibrahimovic linked up with names such as Dayot Upamecano and Eric-Maxim Choupo-Moting, and even managed to score during a training match.
Unfortunately we will have to wait to see Ibrahimovic in action for the senior team as he turns 16- on the 11th December- as only then will he be eligible to make his Bundesliga debut for Bayern.
The younger Ibrahimovic is more than aware of his namesake in Zlatan, and has even described both Zlatan and Cristiano Ronaldo as his idols. Arijon showed comparisons to his namesake in a recent social media post where he wrote “The tiger and the lion may be stronger. But the wolf doesn’t perform in the circus.”
Ibrahimovic is regarded as a hugely talented box-to-box midfielder, who is seen to do the dirty work in defence as often as he is seen to race forward and support attack, drawing companions to Bayern’s talismanic German international Leon Goretzka.
Ibrahimovic has displayed impressive technical skills on the ball, as well as in-game intelligence of years ahead of his time in terms of pressing and positioning.
So, there we have it; are we ready for another Ibrahimovic in football? If there’s even enough room for both! Time will tell but one thing is for sure, at this rate we will find out sooner rather than later.
