The Los Angeles Dodgers have made the biggest move during this year’s trade deadline. The Dodgers have just acquired Washington Nationals ace pitcher, Max Scherzer, and shortstop Trea Turner. This blockbuster deal will send Josiah Gray, Gerardo Carrillo, Donovan Casey, and Keibert Ruiz to the Nationals for Scherzer and Turner. It was apparent that the San Diego Padres were going to initially get Scherzer in a deal with the Nationals, however, the Dodgers swooped in and not only got their ace, however, one of their best batters as well.

This move was huge for the Dodgers after the division-rival Padres acquired Adam Frazier from the Pittsburgh Pirates, Los Angeles knew they had to make a big move in order to compete in the very competitive National League West Division. As previously stated, there were reports that appeared for the San Diego Padres to acquire Max Scherzer, however, it was the Dodgers who swooped in and offered the better deal for the Nationals.

So what does this mean for both sides? For the Dodgers, they found an elite pitcher they can fit right into their rotation, a pitcher that can fill the void of what Trevor Bauer was before he got into trouble. In addition, the Dodgers also get one of the best shortstops in baseball in Trea Turner. He can take over the shortstop position while Corey Seager is hurt. In addition, when Seager comes back, Turner could also play alongside him at second base. This trade for the Dodgers just made them a whole lot more dangerous in the National League.

For the Nationals, they can now start a proper rebuild, they acquired many good young prospects in, Josiah Gray, Gerardo Carrillo, Donovan Casey, and Keibert Ruiz. Hopefully, these players are the building blocks for the future of the Washington Nationals. Even though the loss of Turner and Scherzer may sting for Washington, they now have a young core they can build around, in addition to young talent that they already have such as Juan Soto. All in all, this was a good trade for both sides to make.
