Chicago Bulls sign Lonzo Ball

The Chicago Bulls have landed guard Lonzo Ball on a 4 year, $85 million deal. The deal was made at exactly 6:00 EST when free agency officially opened.

There have been rumors all day about other teams being interested in Lonzo, but the Pelicans didn’t want to splash the cash, so the Bulls took advantage and beat teams like the Hornets and Celtics to the 23-year-old.

Lonzo Ball has had a hard time in the league so far, with an unproductive spell at the Lakers which ended in him being traded to the Pelicans as part of the blockbuster Anthony Davis trade.

What does Lonzo Ball bring to the Bulls?

Lonzo brings a multitude of qualities to the Bulls, he gives them size and length in the guard position, the ability to be unselfish, pick a pass and assist teammates, the occasional three point shot which he has been working on recently, and most of all, he brings very good defense to the side, which will really help them compete next season.

Lonzo’s stats

Lonzo averaged 15/5/6 last season, shooting 41% from the field and 38% from three.

What can the Bulls achieve next season?

This signing effectively gives the Bulls a ‘big three’ of their own, in Zach Lavine, Nikola Vucevic, and now Lonzo Ball.

I can see the Bulls challenging for a top 5 seed in the East, I can’t really see them getting higher than the 4th seed as I think teams like the Bucks, Nets and Sixers will be too dominant to keep up with.

Conclusion

While some may say the Bulls are overpaying Lonzo, I think it is a fantastic signing that can help the Bulls compete next season.
