The Miami Heat have acquired veteran point guard Kyle Lowry in a sign and trade, as Kyle Lowry made it official on his Instagram story. The 35-year-old will sign a 3 year deal in Miami. It is reported that Lowry will make around $25 million per year, per sources.
The Heat have made two other big moves so far this free agency, giving Jimmy Butler a max contract and Duncan Robinson a 5 year, $90 million deal.
What does Lowry bring to the Heat?
Lowry brings a lot of experience to this Heat side, being a 6-time all-star and an NBA champion.
He also brings efficient scoring, Lowry averaged 17/5/7 last season while shooting 44% from the field and 40% from three.
Can the Heat Compete?
The short answer is yes, but not without challenges, the Eastern Conference is the best it has been in a long time with the Bucks, Nets, 76ers, Bulls, and Celtics all having very strong rosters to compete for the top seeds, so a playoff run is going to be extremely difficult however not impossible for this Heat side.
While I think the Jimmy Butler and Duncan Robinson deals weren’t the best salary-wise for the Heat, I think this is a very good pick up for them to compete next season.
