Former UFC middleweight champion Luke Rockhold has been teasing a return to action for several months. Now, it appears as though Dana White has offered him a matchup with surging contender Sean Strickland.

Rockhold, now 36, hasn’t competed since the summer of 2019 when he was knocked out by current light heavyweight champ Jan Blachowicz. Prior to that, the California native fought once a year dating back to 2016. The other side of the coin, Strickland, has rattled off four consecutive victories since returning to the cage last Halloween. Now, ranked in the top-10, “Tarzan” is at the top of his game.
Many have been anticipating Rockhold’s return to fighting, wondering what he has left in the tank. A fight with Strickland will surely serve as a tough task, but a victory will directly insert him into the middleweight elite.
As far as the matchup stylistically, it’s almost guaranteed that we’ll see a high-level striking chess match. Of course, everyone will be anxiously waiting to see how Rockhold’s durability holds up following the outcome of his last outing. Strickland doesn’t have “Polish Power”, but he overwhelms opponents and lands often.
