Despite Double Champion Amanda Nunes being forced to pull out of her scheduled eighth title defense against Julianna Pena due to testing positive for COVID-19, the UFC 265 card remains absolutely stacked from top to bottom. With Derrick Lewis (#2) and Ciryl Gane (#3) squaring off in the main event in what may be remembered as the most controversial Interim Title Fight ever. We also have two times inaugural UFC Featherweight Champion José Aldo (#5) hoping to put himself back in title contention against Pedro Munhoz (#9). Also, we have Michael Chiesa (#5) and Vicente Luque (#6) competing for Welterweight Champion Kamaru Usman’s attention, making the card certain to be a banger!
The Prelim fight that everyone is seemingly most looking forward to is Manel Kape vs Ode Osbourne. Kape has lost his first two UFC fights after moving to the promotion from Rizin. However, his second loss came in March of this year in a split decision, so Kape will be aiming to not leave anything to the judges. In the other corner is Dana White’s Contender Series alum, “the Jamaican Sensation”, Ode Osbourne, who is coming off an impressive 26 second KO over Jerome Rivera back in February. Both men are very interesting prospects and promise a banger.
Opening the PPV card is a bantamweight bout that is almost guaranteed to produce fireworks. Song Yadong makes his return to the octagon with hopes of getting back into the win column, after losing a UD to Kyler Phillips back in March at UFC 259. His opponent, Casey Kenny also lost on the same card in a split decision to Dominick Cruz. Both men will be hoping to put a number next to their names with an impressive win this weekend.
Also on the main card we have #12 ranked Angela Hill facing off against #10 Tecia Torres for a place inside the top ten in a rematch way back in 2015, which Tecia won by UD. Hill hopes to avenge the loss on her way to the title fight, and an impressive win over TUF Season 20 quarter-finalist, Torres.
So, once everything was said and done, everyone made weight, with the exception of Manel Kape. At the time of writing, Ode Osbourne has to decide whether or not to take the fight, but we will keep you updated as that evolves.
