The Bundesliga is underway with Champions Bayern Munich looking for Ten in a row, Robert Lewandowski scored one and was denied a fair few chances by Switzerland Euro 2020 hero Yann Sommer as Bayern Munich began their latest Bundesliga title defence with a come-from-behind draw at Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Monchengladbach started strong with Patrick Herrmann fizzing a early warning shot wide and Josip Stanisic made a vital block to deny Lars Stindl, it was only a matter of time and Gladbach took the early lead.

After ten minutes of play Stindl dispossessed Alphonso Davies and fed Alassane Plea for a clinical finish past Manuel Neuer from just inside the Bayern area. Borussia took their deserved lead, but after a huge amount of pressure they folded under Bayern pressure late in the half.
After Sommer had already made a handful of top draw saves from Lewandowski, and kept out Stanisic.

Who else to open the scoring for the champions none other than Robert Lewandowski setting the record for scoring on the opening day of seven consecutive seasons. Lewandowski who found the net last season on 41 occasions heading home a Joshua Kimmich corner.

Bayern continued to mount pressure in the second half as Leroy Sane warmed the gloves of Sommer, who was made to work once again by Lewandowski moments later.

A Gladbach free-kick provided something to cheer for their fans with a rare glimpse of Neuer’s goal, but Stefan Lainer sent his back-post header wide.

Davies then set up a Lewandowski for a sure finish for Sommer to intervene once again with yet another reaction save of the highest order.  Neuer was given more to do with 20 minutes remaining denying quick-fire efforts from Stindl and Hannes Wolf.

Substitute Marcus Thuram came closest attempting to turn in a Lainer cross as Gladbach looked to find a second wind. A stretching Stindl went closer still to a winner, but couldn’t get enough behind Jonas Hofmann’s low ball into the danger zone.

Julian Nagelsmann’s first competitive game as Bayern head coach was denied his first win with it ending all square.
