Serie A – Aftermath of The Conquerers.

Italy is facing its brightest and most exciting start to the Italian Serie A in decades. Not since their last major tournament victory in 2006 has Italian football looked so bright. The nation was triumphant in foreign territory, but now they resume their battle on common grounds, and with major changes, new arrivals, and the special one, Italian football is in for a treat.

Inter Milan sensationalized attacking football last season, in a league that is known for its tactics and defensive organization, Inter took Juventus’ throne and was helped by the Belgian giant Romelu Lukaku, and the mastermind Antonio Conte Inter secured their first title for 11 years.

The dominance of Juventus was broken, and now the question asked is who can take their chances in a league that lacked competition. Massimiliano Allegri returned to the black and white’s following the departure of Andrea Pirlo, Inter have appointed Simone Inzaghi, Mauricio Sarri heads to Lazio and Jose Mourinho takes control at Roma, these are just some of the sizzling managerial changes made in Italy, perhaps they’re ready to take Italian football back to the top of European club competitions.

The Title Picture

Inter is one of the favorites to win the title, however, they’ve lost their talisman to Chelsea and replaced him with veteran Bosnian Eden Dzeko. Lautaro Martinez is also on the radar of Spurs and some Spanish teams, but they will want to hold on to him. Hakan Calhanoglu was brought in to replace the injured Christian Eriksen from rivals AC Milan, expect Inter to continue in the transfer market as they do have the funds.

Juventus has rehired title-winning manager Massimiliano Allegri and hopes to enter the title picture after a disappointing season. Juventus had no major signings this summer, and although there has been some speculation about Christiano Ronaldo’s transfer, he has assured both manager and fans that he plans to stay in Turin.

AC Milan has once again fought their way to the upper half of the Serie A table after being on the fringes of the mid-table for years. They’ve been technical, resolute in possession, and swift in the attack. Fikayo Tamori was brought in from Chelsea as they continue their trend of bringing in young talents under manager Stefano Pioli. Technical holding midfielder Sandro Tonali was brought in from Brescia and Brahimi Diaz came in on loan from Real Madrid.

Atalanta has been impressive under head coach  Gian Piero Gasperini and has been sublime in their attacking approach. They have significantly improved year to year and are now cementing their position as one of the top 5 in Serie A. “La Dea” as they’re known as has brought in Christian Romero from Juventus to bolster their defense along with goalkeeper Juan Musso from Udinese.

Napoli has always been the ‘nearly’ team in Seria A, never being able to catch Juventus but always maintaining their position at the top 5 of Serie A. Tiemoué Bakayoko came in on loan from Chelsea to solidify their defensive midfield, but haven’t brought in any other significant signings.

Roma hasn’t been in the title picture for many years but historically have always fared well in the Champions League, they have shown incredible ambition in hiring former Champions League winner, and a treble winner with Inter, Jose Mourinho. The ‘special one’ definitely brings a fear factor and an aura around him, no doubt making Roma a title favorite, despite the recent criticism of Mourinho. No one can deny that he is one of the greatest managers of our time and he doesn’t have a lot to prove, but he will feel like he needs to win something after his disappointing exit from Spurs. They have brought in young striker Tammy Abraham from Chelsea and Wolves goalkeeper Rui Patricio, in a fairly good move, no doubt Roma will make that top half of the table interesting.
