Rising bantamweight Jack Shore (14-0-0, 3-0 UFC) has a new opponent in Zviad Lazishvili (8-0-0), who will step in after Said Nurmagomedov (14-2-0, 3-1-0 UFC) had to withdraw due to injury, reported by Giorgi Kokiashvili on Twitter. The two men are set to meet at UFC Fight Night on September 4th.
Rising Bantamweights Set to Clash
This fight between two contenders at 135 pounds is enticing, as Shore has been simply electric in his three walks to the Octagon. He has won two fights by rear-naked choke and the other by split decision against Nohelin Hernandez, Aaron Phillips, and Hunter Azure. If he walks away with a victory, he is sure to crack the bantamweight top 15.
Lazishvili is making his UFC debut against some stiff competition, but he seems to be up for the challenge. The undefeated prospect has taken names over at LFA and the Kombat League, with three of his last four wins coming by submission against Ricky Steele, Shamil Guseinov, and Ahmed Huseynov.
Both Shore and Lazishvili are jiujitsu prodigies, so this should look to be a grappler’s delight of a fight. If Shore can control the mat early; he can look to exploit Lazishvili’s submission defense and get an early submission finish. His rear-naked choke seems to be the submission that can put anyone away.
However, he must be careful as Lazishvili is proven to be a slick grappler who possesses quality submissions from half guard, including the armbar and rear-naked choke. In this case, the difference might just be the standup if neither man wants to risk grappling. Shore has a slight edge on the feet, as he possesses four KO/TKO wins.
Shore will prove to be a tough nut to crack, as he has never lost a fight, even in his amateur career. Again, neither has Lazishvili, so someone’s 0 has got to go in this barn-burner of a fight. Experience might also play a factor; Lazishvili has never stepped into the Octagon, while Shore has four fights at UFC level.
