Last month on August 21st, a regional combat promotion known as “Road to Contenders” took place, featuring bouts from a variety of practises; Kickboxing, Boxing and MMA. In the co-main event of the evening, the popular, fan-favourite Tariq Pell took on a talented Thomas Callaghan. Let’s take a look at what occurred on the night and the exciting news for Pell’s pro debut!

Who is Tariq Pell?

Pell is a former amateur fighter training out of Tsunami Gym Norfolk. When you take a look at the beginning of his career you may be fooled into thinking he is just another local star trying to make it big, but you would be wrong to think that. Pell took some time off after his last defeat and started working with legends such as Lee Doski and Chris Carley. They took his talent and created a new and improved version which was shown in his last time out.

Pell came out to the home crowd in an arena full of deafening support. When the cage door shut it seemed as though Callaghan’s fate was sealed and Pell’s hard work was showcased in front of around 500 people. Pell came out and shot an explosive, successful double leg takedown slamming his opponent into the canvas. The heavy wrestling pressure proved to be too much for the Scotsman as he struggled to defend takedowns for the duration of the bout. Pell also had the advantage in the striking, in what was a very impressive performance.

What is Next for Tariq Pell?

After a dominant decision victory which showed Pell stalk his opponent for three rounds and have him in constant danger, the next step is in the professional world of MMA. Pell has already announced that he will be making his pro debut at Cage Warriors this October. With the previously mentioned Doski and Carley in his corner mixed with a phenomenal work ethic, Pell will step into the cage as a complete fighter with all the makings of a combat sports star.
