Matt “The Immortal” Brown and Bryan “Bam Bam” Barberena are set to square off on December 4th. Both men are fan favorites for their fighter attitude and fighting style. If either man’s name is on the fight card, it is a fight to watch no matter the opponent. Against each other, this fight should be explosive.
Matt Brown vs Bryan Barberena
As far as fighting styles go these two are offensively the mirror image of each other. Brown is an orthodox fighter whereas Barberena is a southpaw. Brown has a slight reach advantage but likes to throw counter strikes that could finish the fight at any time. Barberena is the more volume striker but both men love a firefight and keep moving forward.
Brown is coming off a second stoppage of Dhiego Lima in June, but before that, he came off a unanimous decision loss to fellow veteran Carlos Condit, who recently announced his retirement. Despite his fight name “The Immortal” at 40 years old, Brown must be considering the end of his career. It could be that he is looking for a couple of final wars against a come-forward fighter like Barberena. Like the warrior he is Brown, has no intention of going away quietly and he will be looking to come out of this war with his hand raised.
Barberena has been inconsistent in his UFC career. His record is a win one, loses one scenario. He has three losses and only one win in his last four fights. He can take solace in the fact that the loss in his last fight was a very close split decision. However, to move up the rankings he needs to get a winning streak together, and a big name like Brown would be a great start. Both men know that this is a must-win fight. This will only fuel their already intense fighting styles.
Both men are strikers who will take each other’s strikes to land their own. Being 8 years younger Barberena should have an advantage in durability but Brown is especially known for his toughness. Both men have struggled against wrestlers but in this case, Brown’s very underrated wrestling and submission game could give him the edge in this fight. The only thing for sure about this fight is it will not be boring.
