If you’re looking for a Fight of the Night contender at UFC Vegas 38, you will not have to look much further than Alex Oliveira vs Niko Price. With 22 KO/TKO’s combined between the pair, this bout promises fireworks.
Alex Oliveira explored different avenues of careers by trying his hand at construction work and bull riding. However, at 22 years of age, ‘Cowboy’ turned to martial arts and hit the ground running. The Brazilian made his professional debut in 2011 against Rodrigo Rodrigo and won via KO in the very first round. After defeating Joliton Lutterbach at FTF 10, Oliveira was signed into the UFC.
He made his UFC debut in 2015 at UFC Fight Night 62 but fell victim to an armbar submission in the hands of his fellow Brazilian Gilbert Burns. Since his unsuccessful UFC debut, Olivera has cemented an 11-9-1 record which includes victories over Tim Means, Carlos Condit, and Max Griffin.
Niko Price, born and raised in Cape Coral, Florida, began training kickboxing and discovered his talent for fighting by winning two bouts via knockout. After the thrills of 2 straight knockouts, ‘The Hybrid’ started training martial arts in 2008.
Price finished his amateur career undefeated and continued that sensational form by collecting a 9-0 professional record before losing to Vincente Luque in 2017. Despite being winless in 3 fights, the 32-year-old has shown his talent by defeating the likes of James Vick, Tim Means, and Randy Brown.
Price made his last outing to the UFC octagon at UFC 264: Poirier vs McGregor, where he collided with a mature Michel Pereira. However, after chasing down his opponent and absorbing many strikes, he found himself on the end of a unanimous decision loss.
When these two UFC veterans are locked in the octagon on Saturday night, I expect to see Niko Price take the center, create a frantic pace, and trade haymakers from the early goings. If this match-up turns into a battle of cardio, it’ll heavily favor Price. The longer the clock ticks on, Price will take over and tee off on his opponent.
With that in mind, Oliveira should eye up taking his opponent down to the canvas, reign down some ground and pound, and finish the fight from there. However, if the Brazilian can get this bout to the ground, he’ll have to look out for the dangerous shots coming his way from Price.
Route to victory – Alex Oliveira
- Dictate the pace
- Take the fight to the canvas
Route to victory – Niko Price
- Take the centre of the octagon and dictate the pace.
- Mix up his strikes and target the body and legs.
When analyzing this bout, it fits Niko Price down to the ground and it’s probably his best way of moving back into the win column. I believe he will march his opponent down, dictate the pace, tire out Oliveira and claim a bonus worthy victory.
Fight Prediction: Niko Price via KO/TKO.
