An unexpected Freestyle Wrestling match is set to go down between Khamzat Chimaev and Jack Hermansson at Sweden’s Bulldog Fight 9. The bout will take place next month in the city of Gothenburg, on November 19th.

The fight was first announced by Swedish MMA and fight news outlet Frontkick.online. Chimaev has lived in Sweden since he was 19 years of age, and he currently trains in Stockholm at Allstars Training Centre. Hermansson was born and raised in Sweden, and Chimaev shared some kind words on Hermansson’s Instagram post after the announcement.

What to Expect From the Wrestling Showdown

Chimaev has brought his Wrestling talent into MMA, with three dominant performances since he joined the UFC. He started Wrestling at the young age of five, and he won a bronze medal at the Russian National Championships when he was a junior.

After his move to Sweden, he was considered one of the best wrestlers in the country and Chimaev won a gold medal at the 2016 and 2017 Swedish Freestyle National Championships at 86KG, and in 2018, he did the same at 92KG.

Complications from contracting Covid-19 led to reports of Chimaev retiring from MMA with the cancellation of three fights against Leon Edwards. Chimaev is set to face Li Jingliang at UFC 267 at the end of this month on his return to the octagon. The fight is 20 days before his wrestling showdown with Hermansson.

Hermansson started his martial arts career learning the arts as a Greco-Roman Wrestler. He enjoyed early success in his MMA career becoming Cage Warriors middleweight champion before signing for the UFC.

We’ve seen some fantastic submissions from Hermansson throughout his career, most recently, a stunning heel-hook against Kelvin Gastelum. Well, this isn’t submissions, it’s Freestyle Wrestling, a completely different ball game for Hermansson.

We haven’t seen “The Joker” in the octagon since his strong performance over Edmen Shahbazyan winning via unanimous decision back in May. It’s looking like Sweden’s Bulldog Fight will have their biggest viewership ever on November 19th, it will be a surprising one if not!
