The Charlotte Hornets took a trip to Brooklyn, New York after a win on Friday against the Cleveland Cavaliers taking their first test against the Brooklyn Nets. You can chalk this up as a passed test. By outscoring the Nets 61-37 in the second half, the Hornets defeated the Brooklyn Nets 111-95 to start the season at 3-0 for the first time in franchise history.
Bridges, Ball Initiated the Game for Charlotte
Miles Bridges had a phenomenal game, scoring 32 points and grabbing nine rebounds. Also giving SportsCenter a highlight with a 360 fastbreak dunk. LaMelo Ball played three quarters of basketball and scored 18 points and five assists and took time off in the fourth quarter to let the bench put in work.
Hornets’ bench becomes lightning rod for win
After LaMelo Ball was benched in the fourth quarter by coach James Borrego, it was time to give the backups a chance to shine. Ish Smith, one of the Hornets’ free agent signings scored 11 of his 15 points in the fourth quarter. Also, Cody Martin scored 12 points on 4-8 from the floor. The Hornets also enjoyed production from Jalen McDaniels and P.J. Washington during the game and that helps the team grow when going through the stretches of an NBA season.
The early success of the Charlotte Hornets has impressed me. LaMelo is still being his usual playmaking self, and Miles Bridges has had two of the three games this season in which he has been the leading scorer with 30 or more points. The Hornets also expect big things from Gordon Hayward and Kelly Oubre Jr this season and Ish Smith to bring in some depth on the squad. This 3-0 start is very impressive and, hopefully, can continue for Charlotte.
