The Cage Warriors Academy returned after a 2-year absence to stun the Ebbw Vale Sports Centre with an event for the ages. One of the successful gyms on the night was Shore MMA who competed in 9 events and came away with 7 victories.

Over the past few years, Welsh MMA has progressed leaps and bounds with Shore MMA being at the heart of the movement.

Their most notable fighter is Jack Shore who’s competing at the peak of the sport and darting towards a bantamweight title shot under the UFC banner.

Richard Shore, the owner of Shore MMA, claims the success of his gym comes down to having “a hard work ethic, self-belief, a good attitude and a willingness to listen and learn” Cage Warriors Academy

One fighter of many who impressed on the night was Kenzie Jones who claimed the 1st round submission and catapulted himself into Cage Warriors Academy title contention. Shore had high praise for the youngster and the many others shining through at his gym:

“Kenzie would give most pros in the UK MMA scene a tough time. He has huge potential along with many others of his team.”

“Carl Parker and I are very proud of the team. I truly believe we have one of the strongest amateur teams in Europe. The average age for the 9 fighters that fought on Saturday was 21 years which is incredible

After almost 2 years without a Cage Warriors Academy event in Wales, the amateur MMA scene has suffered considerable amounts. Shore opened about the impacts of Covid 19 on the fighters and the return of a sold-out Ebbw Vale Sports Centre:

“It’s been a long time coming. The impact that this lockdown has had on every team of amateurs in the UK has been cruel.

“These youngsters are all talented fighters that have had 2 years of competing taken away from them. The atmosphere of that sold-out crowd on Saturday was unbelievable.”

There were also many familiar faces showing their support for their teammates. Jack Shore, Brett Johns, and Oban Elliott were just a few names on display and Shore knows exactly how valuable and important their guidance is for the youngsters:

“They (Shore, Johns, and Elliott) train daily with the amateur team, so they were there as always giving their support. All three of those guys did their apprenticeships on the Academy events, so it shows how invaluable the experience of fighting on these events is”
