There you have it, folks. Just when he was starting to catch his rhythm, Patrick Williams takes an awkward fall and is out for the season. This isn’t the end of the world but a starter in the weakest position on the roster getting injured is a big blow and stagnates the 20-year-old forward’s development a bit as well. So who does Chicago look to moving forward?
Short term, it’s going to have to be guys already on the roster that pick up the pieces and chip in moving forward. Javonte Green might move into the role he had in the pre-season where he started while Williams was injured. The way he looked in that role gives me the most confidence despite his size. Chicago is going to expect Troy Brown Jr. to step it up and play more minutes as well. Credit where it’s due he’s seemed to look a lot better the last few games so hopefully he keeps that up. Billy Donovan will definitely give some more minutes to Derrick Jones Jr. too I would presume given his length and athleticism.
At the end of the day, the Bull’s small-ball lineups have been getting killed on the boards and this isn’t going to help by any means. All Bulls fans can do is hope for the best and that the front office and coaching staff find a quick solution moving forward whether that’s internally or externally. This hurts, but it’s not the end of the world.
