Borussia Dortmund have been dealt a major blow in their pursuit of the Bundesliga with news that Erling Haaland is set to miss the rest of 2021 through injury.
The Norwegian sensation is rumoured to have suffered a torn hip flexor and was missing from his side’s win over Armenia Bielefeld last weekend through injury, with manager Marco Rose previously stating he would be out for just a few weeks.
It appears from recent information that the injury it seems is more severe than originally thought, the news of the tear will mean that Haaland will be out for a minimum of six weeks which would suggest we won’t see more from Haaland in 2021.
Haaland is only behind former Dortmund favourite Robert Lewandowski in the goalscoring charts with his nine goals to date.
The onus will know fall on the future of Dortmund, with Donyell Malen who is still struggling to find his feet in the Bundesliga since his summer move from PSV Eindhoven to fill the scoring boots of Haaland in his absence.
Dortmund have so far majorly struggled in the goal scoring department this season outside of the 21 Norwegian who is their top scorer the second-highest goals scored is only three goals courtesy of Raphael Guerreiro.
This will springboard the likes of the returning Thorgan Hazard, Jude Bellingham, Giovanni Reyna and club captain Marco Reus to show there is life at Dortmund outside of Haaland, and perhaps a blessing in disguise giving the club the opportunity to prepare for life after Haaland with the superstar likely playing in his last season at Dortmund with continuing rumours of his exit becoming more regular.
Can Dortmund keep in touch of Bayern Munich without their talisman and await his return or will the Bavarian giants once again run away with this seasons Bundesliga making it 10 in a row?
