Usman Nurmagomedov, the cousin of former UFC Lightweight Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov, and another individual he was traveling with have been detained by police at Moscow’s Sheremetyevo Airport for running over a police officer at Kaspiysk Airport with their vehicle.
First reported by TASS, a law enforcement source, stated, “Usman Nurmagomedov and Kamal Idrisov were detained upon flight arrival from Kaspiysk. They are suspected of ramming a police officer with their car at Kaspiysk Airport.” According to local investigative reports, police officers demanded the driver of a Toyota Camry stop near a checkpoint around 11:30 a.m. local time on November 11, 2021. The vehicle had no license numbers, and tinted windows obscured the driver. The driver ignored the officer’s demand and sped up, going over a security barrier running over a police officer. The officer sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
As the news began to spread, Usman Nurmagomedov posted a statement on his Instagram downplaying the situation. “I don’t know who’s writing what, but please, calm down already. I’ve been bombarded with text messages, everything’s fine.” A criminal case has been opened by the Russian Investigation Committee per the report. The report also indicates that Usman Nurmagomedov and Idrisov are being transported back to Dagestan for further investigation of the incident.
