Conor McGregor has taken to Twitter to call out Jorge Masvidal after the BMF champion pulled out of his upcoming fight at UFC 269 against Leon Edwards.
Masvidal was set to settle the score with fellow UFC welterweight contender Edwards in the octagon at UFC 269 after their back and forth over the last couple of years. However, the BMF title holder was forced to withdraw, having picked up an injury in training for the bout.
Edwards was first to respond to the news when he took to Twitter to show his disappointment and make his statement calling the 37-year-old a ‘fraud’ and that he expects to be facing Kamaru Usman for the title in his next appearance.
Conor McGregor Bashes Jorge Masvidal for UFC 269 Withdrawal
It was then the ‘Notorious’ one’s turn to give his say on the platform as he explicitly ranted his opinion on Masvidal’s withdrawal from UFC 269. McGregor left it until it was Masvidal’s birthday to call him out on Twitter, stating that the Miami native is ‘bottling’ the fight and should be stripped of his BMF belt.
However, it didn’t take long for Masvidal to respond as he came back within the hour telling the Irishman that he was ‘barking up the wrong tree’ and stating that he should ‘go back to fighting old dudes in bars’ alluding to McGregor’s past controversy.
Masvidal has previously been rumoured to fight McGregor. The welterweight responded by saying that the former UFC lightweight and featherweight champion was ‘too small and fragile’ to potentially ever face him.
A fight between the two superstars doesn’t look too unlikely, as the BMF title could be on the line in a potential super fight between two of the biggest names in the sport. McGregor has also previously spoken of his intentions to compete at welterweight, which is Masvidal’s weight class, having also fought Donald Cerrone at 170lbs back in January 2020.
As for Jorge Masvidal facing Leon Edwards, there has been no word on whether the fight will be rescheduled or if the Brit may now move on towards fighting for the title next.
