UFC President Dana White capped off another busy weekend last Sunday evening by taking in FURY FC 53. White was in Denver attending the Sunday night card as he was filming an episode of his eponymous Dana White: Lookin’ For A Fight web series. The boss of the MMA leader was impressed with what he saw from two fighters on the main card portion of the show.
Lightweight Champion Trey Ogden Exchanges Strap For UFC Deal
In FURY FC 53’s main event, Trey Ogden (15-4 MMA, 1-0 FURY FC) made his promotional debut against JJ Okanovich (8-3 MMA, 1-1 FURY FC) for the FURY FC Lightweight Championship. As far as the fight itself, Ogden locked in a second-round submission due to an arm-triangle choke to take the championship, but he only held onto it for a few minutes, as after the show, Dana White signed him to a UFC contract.
A Dream Come True For FURY FC 53’s Trey Ogden
For the now-former champion at 155 lbs., Sunday night’s main event was the culmination of a dream several years in the making. Back in 2018, Ogden spoke to MyMMANews.com, where he said that his major goal was to compete in the world’s top MMA promotion.
“I will fight in the UFC. I told my manager to tell Sean Shelby that,” Ogden said at the time. “Whoever… I’ll fight anybody in the UFC. I know that there’s some beast-like character that everybody’s dodging, that nobody wants to fight because nobody’s heard about him, and he’s the baddest guy on the planet. Give me that guy. I’ll fight him on three days’ notice.”
Ogden will finally get his shot in the UFC, though it may or may not be on three days’ notice.
Joseph Holmes Scores UFC Deal With KO Victory vs. Pati
Earlier in the evening, Joseph Holmes (7-1 MMA, 1-0 FURY FC) also made his promotional debut against Jhonoven Pati (6-6 MMA, 0-1 FURY FC) in a battle of Dana White’s Contender Series alumni.
Holmes appeared on the Oct. 5 episode vs. Shonte Barnes, scoring a second-round submission via rear-naked choke. The win netted him the opportunity on Sunday night’s card. Meanwhile, Pati appeared on the Aug. 5, 2020, episode vs. Jaime Pickett.
Holmes made good on his second chance to impress the UFC’s boss, knocking Pati out inside the first round of the three-round fight as the main card reached its midpoint.
Holmes and Ogden’s Deals Made Official Through Instagram
Jason House, who manages both Trey Ogden and Joseph Holmes as the CVO of Iridium Sports Agency, announced, via Instagram, that both of his fighters were now members of the UFC.
“Another two clients signed to the UFC tonight!” wrote House after FURY FC 53 concluded on Sunday. “So proud of @UglyManJoe and @Marathon_MMA. They’ve been through so much adversity and always stayed the course. Love you, boys!”
As both Holmes and Ogden have just been signed to the UFC, there is no word when either of these men will make their respective UFC promotional debuts. Overtime Heroics is committed to keeping you abreast of the latest information regarding this story.
