5 Things Texans Fans Should Be Thankful For

Heading into Thanksgiving week and the midway point in the season, what are some things that every Texans fan should be thankful for?

1. Houston’s Shocking Win Over Tennessee Last Week

Yes, you read that right, the Texans did win on Sunday. They beat the number one seed in the AFC, the Tennessee Titans, 22-13. By virtue of that victory, they picked up their first win on the road this season and just their second win in 2021.

Houston did well this last Sunday in part because their defense played to their full potential, forcing five turnovers. Moreover, the offense was slow at first, but they would eventually find their stride and put up 22 points on the day.

2. The Draft

Despite the dread of a losing season, the Texans are still set up nicely in the draft. This will be the first time in four years in which the third-place AFC South side will have a first-round pick (thanks to former head coach Bill O’Brian’s horrible trades). The Texans, as it stands, are set to have the fourth overall pick, which provides solid value.

The team’s biggest needs are another quarterback (assuming Tyrod Taylor does not return) and a few offensive linemen, as well as reinforcements in the receiving corps. If the Texans can do this, they should be in good hands next season.

3. Nick Caserio

General Manager Nick Caserio is someone that fans should be extremely thankful for. In his time thus far with the Texans, Caserio has made a number of notable moves. His trades have resulted in Houston receiving draft picks that will be crucial during this rebuilding period.

Furthermore, Caserio proved during his time with New England that he wants to win and will do everything in his power to bring that winning mentality to H-Town.

4. Tyrod Taylor

With Deshaun Watson holding out and refusing to play for the Texans, Houston needed another quarterback, and they found one. Tyrod Taylor has managed to be the guy to right the ship in Houston. Despite missing six games with a hamstring injury, Taylor’s record with Houston is 2-1.

He is no Deshaun, but he is what the team needs right now.

5. David Culley

Many fans do not like Culley because either the Texans are losing, or because they did not want him to be the next head coach. Whatever the reason may be, the fans need to be thankful that he was brought in. Culley was one of the few options the Texans had during the hiring process, and he has done everything possible to elevate the Houston Texans.

Even though this season is an obvious rebuild year, Culley has raised the energy and “vibe” in the locker room that makes players want to be there. While he is not the best coach, he is certainly great and exactly what Houston needs at this point.

Final Thoughts

Being a Texans fan myself, this was my list of what I am thankful for about this team and I hope every fan feels the same. We have been through a lot these past seasons, but we must be thankful for what we have now, and for what we will have soon.
