A big middleweight bout is set to take place this February, as reported by Brett Okamoto on Twitter. Jack Hermansson will take on Sean Strickland in a five-round main event that will headline a UFC event on Feb. 5.
Sean Strickland vs. Jack Hermansson
Jack Hermansson (22-6, 9-4 UFC) has alternated wins and losses in his last four bouts. Currently ranked #6 in the middleweight division, Hermanson is looking to string together a couple of victories to position himself for a title shot.
He got back into the win column with a unanimous decision win over Edmen Shahbazyan in May. Prior to that, Hermansson had key victories over Ronaldo Souza and Kelvin Gastelum, but losses to Jared Cannonier and Marvin Vettori derailed title aspirations.
Sean Strickland (24-3, 11-3 UFC) is currently ranked #7 in the middleweight division and steps into the octagon riding a five-fight win streak. Between 2017 and 2018, Strickland went 1-2 losing bouts to current UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman and Elizeu Zaleski.
Strickland followed the loss to Zaleski with a victory over Nordine Taleb, a fight that would be his last in the welterweight division. He made his middleweight debut in Oct. 2020 and defeated Jack Marshman. He then earned wins over Brendan Allen, Krzysztof Jotko, and most recently, Uriah Hall.
Darren Till showed interest in a fight with Strickland, but Strickland shut the door on that possibility and name-dropped Jack Hermansson or Paulo Costa as his desired opponents. It appears that Strickland got one of his wishes being matched up with the former in an event headliner.
The Feb. 5 event does not yet have an announced venue or location. The event lineup now includes:
- Jack Hermansson vs. Sean Strickland
- Marc-Andre Barriault vs. Chidi Njokuani

- John Castaneda vs. Miles Johns
- Denys Bondar vs. Malcolm Gordon

The card is subject to change.
