Daniel Cormier Responds After Sean O’Malley Criticizes His Commentary Work

Former double champion, Daniel Cormier, responded after Sean O’Malley became the latest fighter to take jabs at his skills behind the booth.

Daniel Cormier was behind the desk calling the action that unfolded at UFC 269, including Sean O’Malley’s fight with Raulian Paiva.

Sean O’Malley (15-1) entered his UFC 269 clash with two consecutive stoppage victories over Thomas Almedia and a durable Kris Moutinho.

Raulian Paiva (21-4) entered the contest in fine form, winning his last three bouts, more recently, a majority decision win over Kyler Phillips back in July.

The opening minutes consisted of both fighters feeling each other out and attempting to get a read on one another’s timing. A back and forth battle. Towards the end of the round, Sean O’Malley glanced at the clock to see how much time had left. Upon this, Daniel Cormier called it out on the broadcast insinuating that O’Malley was gassing.

Sean O’Malley responded in a way that O’Malley knows how by rocking Raulian Paiva then stopping the Brazilian with a flurry of strikes against the cage. O’Malley took the opportunity at the UFC 269 press conference to address the issue regarding Daniel Cormier’s comments.

“I was looking at the clock to see how much time I had left, cuz some people, Daniel Cormier was like, ‘Oh my god! He’s looking at the clock!’ Of course, I was looking at the clock. What are you talking about dude, If I don’t look at the clock, how am I gonna know how much time do I have?” – Sean O’Malley said (h/t Sportskeeda).

The comments caught the attention of Cormier who took to Twitter to respond on the matter.

“Sean O’Malley great win tonight, you and I spoke this week you could have told me that! It was simple I wouldn’t have done anything but take your criticism. You looked great tonight!” Cormier said.

It has been a regular occurrence over the last week for Daniel Cormier’s commentary work to be put on blast, as earlier in the week, Cormier’s colleague Dominick Cruz threw him to the wolves by letting the public know he doesn’t do his own homework before fight cards.
