In honor of today being Craig Biggio’s 56th birthday, here’s a look back at some of Biggio’s best moments from his career.
1. Mr. 3000
On June 28th, 2007, Craig Biggio went five for six on the day with an RBI and perhaps the most important hit in his career, his 3000th. Craig entered the 2007 season needing just 70 hits to get to 3000 and he accomplished that during the seventh inning of an 8-5 victory at home against the Colorado Rockies.
Biggio became the 27th member of the 3000 hit club as well as the first Astros player to accomplish this feat.
2. Cooperstown Legend
In 2015 Craig Biggio was inducted into the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame alongside Randy Johnson, John Smoltz, and Pedro Martinez. Biggio was drafted by the Houston Astros in 1988 and played all 20 seasons with the team. Biggio would eventually retire in 2007.
Houston would have his number retired in 2008.
As funny as it would seem, Craig Biggio did hold the Major League Record for most hit-by-pitches in a career with 285, he would eventually be passed, but it was a good run.
Getting hit by a pitch is never fun, but holding the record for it has to be.
4. 2005 National League Champion
Although the Astros didn’t win the World Series in 2005, they were able to win their first National League pennant. Biggio went 8-24 batting a .333 average during the 05 NLCS against the St Louis Cardinals.
Biggio just so happened to be an important piece to the Astros 2005 NLCS championship.
Craig Biggio is undoubtedly one of the best players to ever don an Astros uniform, and it’s no question why. Even though he unfortunately never got to win a World Series, at least he’ll be in Cooperstown forever in the Hall of Fame.
