Calling Out Everybody
Becoming notorious for his call-outs of high-ranking UFC fighters and even retirees like Daniel Cormier, Khamzat “Borz” Chimaev (10-0) just received a stern warning from UFC welterweight Colby “Chaos” Covington (16-3) in a recent Submission Radio interview.
Khamzat Chimaev recently took to Twitter to threaten Covington, asking him to call the cops because he’s coming for him.
Covington’s Warning to Chimaev
Covington spoke about the threat during a Submission Radio interview. “Chaos” warned “Borz” that his UFC career might be short-lived if he stepped into the Octagon with him.
“Guys, I don’t think they can sanction that fight legally yet. I think that there’s such a discrepancy in the rankings. I mean, the guy hasn’t even beat anybody in the top 10 yet. I mean, I’ve been in the top 10 for five years now, beating champion after champion,” Covington said to Submission Radio. “So, I don’t even know if a commission would allow this fight to go through. But this fight, the only way it would look would just be complete domination”.
Covington continued to downplay Chimaev’s skill during the interview, saying the Russian’s call-outs are all about self-promotion.
“That same type of hype that all the clickbait journalists, all the MMA media out there put on Street Judas Masvidal,” Covington continued. “That same hype. They hype him up, they can’t stop talking about him, and everything’s about this kid, this hype, this hype, and then boom, it gets halted. So, it would get halted in a very violent way. And you don’t want to hurt a kid’s career before he even gets started. So, you send him up here, and he’s never going to be the same person again.”
Chimaev’s UFC Success
Since coming to the promotion in July 2020, Chimaev has been successful in all four of his fights. He’s beaten Rhys McKee (11-4-1), Gerald Meerschaert (33-4), and Jingliang Li (18-7) all by first-round finishes, with only the one fight with John Phillips at UFC Fight Island 1 making it to the early minutes of Round 2.
Previous Twitter War
In previous Twitter wars between the two fighters, ‘Chaos’ made fun of Khamzat for saying he was retiring from the sport due to the “common cold.” Covington was referencing the 27-year-old announcing his retirement after struggling with the effects of COVID-19.
