Rising star Sean O’Malley responds to his breakthrough into the official UFC bantamweight rankings.

Sean O’Malley (15-1), who has previously caused an uproar with fans due to not fighting ranked opposition, has now found himself among the best in the division after an impressive outing at UFC 269 over Raulian Paiva.

O’Malley entered the Octagon with two back-to-back stoppage victories, which got the ‘Suger’ show back on track. Brazil’s Raulian Paiva entered the fight with a fourth fight win streak of his own.

Not many of O’Malley’s opponents have made it out the first round in the past, and sadly for Paiva, he was no different. O’Malley was patient in his shot selection, eventually dropping Paiva with a crisp right hand, which was the beginning of the end. Seconds later, O’Malley unleashed a barrage of strikes against the cage, forcing the referee to stop the action.

Excluding the fight with Marlon Vera, the fight with Paiva was undoubtedly the twenty-seven-year-olds biggest test to date, and he made it look easy. The bonus worthy performance granted O’Malley a slot in the official UFC bantamweight rankings at number #13.

During the latest episode of his own podcast ‘Timbo SugarShow’, Sean O’Malley responded to the news of his newly crowned spot on the rankings.

Sean O’Malley Responds

“Now, I just want to f*cking get healthy and then just get back to training. Because dude, we are going to be fighting the best of the best very soon.” O’Malley explained. “And it is that once you start fighting the best of the best, you do not go backwards… I have zero craving to go to parties at the moment.”

There is no going back for O’Malley now. Ahead of him is a murder’s row of talent and experience. Raphael Assuncao, Frankie Edgar, Pedro Munhoz currently loom over O’Malley in the rankings and former opponent Marlon Vera, who seemed open to running the fight back.
