The first loss to ‘Style Bender’ came in April 2018, before Adesanya would capture UFC gold. In that bout, Vettori was on the wrong end of a razor thin split decision.
The ‘Italian Dream’ bounced back rattling off five straight wins on his way to a shot at the UFC middleweight title, now held by Adesanya. In their rematch, Vettori came up short once again, this time losing via unanimous decision.
“He’s the next best guy at 185 in my opinion, he’s doing tremendous things. I’m a friend of Marvin’s, I think he’s tremendous. That fight he had against Paulo Costa was sensational. I called that fight, I was right there, he won that fight fair and square but Paulo Costa had a lot of success and some of the shots that Marvin ate, some of those kicks and punches and the power that Costa has, Marvin took every single f***ing one of them,” Bisping said.
“(Vettori) never took a backwards step and fired right back every single time. It was a really inspiring performance. I was already a fan but after that I was like wow, this guy is incredible, man,” Bisping added.
Vettori returned to the Octagon with a dominant performance against Paulo Costa in October, once again solidifying himself as one of the best fighters in the division.
With two losses to Adesanya, a third bout may be a tough sell for Dana White and UFC fans, but recently, Vettori has turned his attention to another; undefeated boxer and YouTube star Jake Paul.
“So f***king embracing I feel like I gotta do it for the MMA world, pick one handicap @jakepaul and I’ll fight you with it lol”
After his vicious knockout of Tyron Woodley, Jake Paul has been calling out many names under the UFC banner including Jorge Masvidal, Kamaru Usman and Nick Diaz. If Vettori wants a shot at Jake Paul, he’ll have to get in line.
